About me and this blog

“The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them” Bernard Shaw

Miguel Molina AlenI have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Digital Marketing and Communication. I am passionate about Psychology and ICT, and am currently working as a Web Analyst at a hotel company. I think that everybody can teach you something, that every corner of the world offers another piece of the puzzle. The purpose of this blog is interact with the readers; all comments are appreciated.

Why this blog is called reactancia.com?

I named my blog reactancia (reactance in Spanish) after the Brehn’s psychological theory of reactance. The theory can be summarized as follows: when a person’s freedom to carry out a specific behaviour is threatened, the person experiences a motivational activation (reactance) that leads the individual to attempt to restore his freedom of action. It is one of the key elements of the famous Reverse psychology; if you ignore a woman, she is likely to get interested in you; if you tell a child not to eat the vegetables he so dislikes, it is likely for him to do the opposite. The more freedom a person feels he has, the more reactance will be activated in case he feels his freedom is being threatened.

Another related effect is when, for example, a child is making an irritating noise and we tell him to stop. The child will stop making it, but after our command he will do it once more to prove that it is he himself who stops making it, and is not doing so just to obey us.
